This is a good product to allow regular headphones to be used with the IPOD shuffle 3rd generation.

Similar to the other reviews, the plastic case over the buttons fell off within weeks. But it was nothing that a small dab of Gorilla Glue on each end couldn’t fix. I’ve used this to hook my Shuffle up to the audio deck in my truck and to the headphones built into my ski helmet. It works similar to controls supplied by Apple, too bad Apple doesn’t make this same accessory.

I have an iPod Shuffle. It was perfect for my needs until I purchased a new car in which I was able to plug the Shuffle and play through the radio. Perfect, until I realized I had no way to control which songs were played.
I was regretting getting the Shuffle and planning on getting a Nano and not happy about the expense. Then a friend told me about the Scosche Control Adapter and I ordered it immediately. My Shuffle is perfect again!

I bought the Scosche Control Adapter for my father for the iPod Shuffle he received for Christmas due to him disliking the headphones that came with the iPod and wanting to use his own. The Control Adapter worked great right out of the box, but a couple of days later the buttons failed to work and the female plug does not create a tight enough fit on the headphone jack, which requires you to constantly fiddle with it until it stops cutting out. About a month later, we can get the buttons to work SOMETIMES but not all of the time. We purchased the Scoshe adapter because it had higher review scores (but not by much) than the Belkin product, so we figured we got the best product Amazon had for this certain function; we were wrong. I would personally wait until a better Shuffle control adapter hits the market, because as of right now this product and its competitors all seem pretty crummy. Our problems with the Scoshe adapter isn’t due to user error either, because we could all use the iPod headphone controls just fine and the Scoshe controls work the exact same, except only some of the time.

The iPod shuffle earbud control setup is ill conceived. This little device solves a major design flaw since the functionality of the shuffle out of the package is severely restricted. The control adapter is an indispensable piece of equipment. Apple really should have included something like this.
I’ve been using this for 2 months now and am pleased with its performance. So far, this has worked fine and seems durable. I’ve used it quite a bit in varying environments. It works great and is sonically transparent.
However, 16 dollars is an outrageous price for this product. It should be less than half that price.
